‘Sally Pointers’ Introduction to Sprang

Join ‘Sally Pointer’  award-winning experimental archaeologist and heritage educator – for a fascinating introduction to Sprang,  one of the world’s oldest textile techniques. Sally specialises in tracing craft traditions from their earliest origins to the present day and brings deep insight into the history and practice of ancient making.

Sprang is a remarkable method of interlinking and braiding on stretched threads, with examples dating back to the Neolithic period.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics using a simple stick frame to create beautifully elastic fabrics ideal for bags, caps, and more.

Most participants go home with a small finished bag, a collection of sample pieces, and a work-in-progress to continue at home – along with a new appreciation for the ingenuity this timeless textile craft and its early makers.
